Skipping an MMA lesson might seem like a huge thing and label you as a lazy person. However, sometimes it is justified to skip a lesson or two.

You could pass an MMA lesson due to several different reasons. Those could be family-related matters, emergencies, or health problems that will take time to heal. Whatever your reason is, MMA is just a hobby for most people.

Let’s look into the different reasons why you might want to skip MMA class and have a good reason to do so.

1. Health problems

Health issues are likely the most common reason why people skip an MMA class.

Those issues might be MMA-related injuries, or something completely different but that still keeps you from hitting the gym.

Sometimes it is much better to properly heal before attending the next MMA class. MMA is a physically really demanding sport and doing that while you are still recovering can make the process longer than it should.

You could even have something contagious like the flu. If that is the case, it is definitely not recommended to go to the gym due to your own safety as well as other people practicing there.

Make sure to have at least one day without any symptoms, or whatever your doctor recommends, before returning to the gym.

2. Important work or school-related event

There is more to life than just MMA. Usually, people have full-time jobs or are studying alongside MMA training.

You might have a big job interview the next day. That might be a presentation at school. If you feel like you need to take the time off to prepare for the next day, that is completely understandable.

Having that extra time and energy to prepare for those big things can drastically change the course of your life for the better. Therefore, prioritize your time and goals during times that matter the most.

MMA gym will still be there the next week. That job interview could be once a lifetime opportunity. There is no point risking it for one MMA lesson, at least in my opinion. In the end, it is up to you, but that seems like a valid reason to skip one MMA class.

3. Family matters

For some people, MMA might be more than just a hobby, as cliche as it sounds.

If this is the case, it is still important to have time to spend with family and friends. By this, I don’t meant to regularly skip MMA class to attend a club with the boys, but important events like birthdays, weddings and such should not be missed because of MMA lessons.

MMA gym will be there the next week, those rare family occasions might not. Be sure to not miss anything crucial due to one MMA class.

On the other hand, if you wish not to attend your cousin’s wife’s sister’s thirty-sixth birthday, MMA class could be used as an excuse not to go. So this kind of works both ways.

Finding a healthy balance between MMA, work, and family is important for your well-being.

4. Burnout

Burnout or overtraining can be a real danger to your health, well-being, and ability to continue practicing. Therefore, try to get enough rest in between each training session.

If you had a rough day at work and you really feel like you are going to burn out if you also hit the MMA class, why should you?

Make your well-being the number one priority. Isn’t that why you attend the gym in the first place? To feel good? If it starts to have a negative impact on your health, take a break or you might be forced to because of your health.

5. Training MMA makes you uncomfortable

Ok, let’s talk straight. MMA is cool, it is a great hobby and a way to develop yourself. However, it is still not made for everybody.

It might feel like the best thing in the world at first, but after six months, maybe a year in you realize that it might not be your thing after all.

If every time you have to attend the class you really don’t feel like doing so, maybe it’s time to find something new.

As I mentioned before, isn’t your well-being the main reason you are training for? If training starts to negatively impact your life, what is the point of training?

It is okay to quit and try to find something better. There are no rules that once you sign up, you can not cancel. Or there should not be, that and other things to look out for when choosing the right gym in this post.

If you feel bad when skipping an MMA class, it’s completely normal. That is due to you setting yourself goals of achieving something and you feel like not attending is ruining your progress.

You might also feel guilty and think about what others at the gym think when you didn’t show up.

Just like in strict food diets, cheat meals are allowed sometimes. Nobody is perfect, and you don’t have to be.

Especially if you have a real reason to skip one MMA class, like some of the ones mentioned above, you should not feel bad.

You might also get sick when you definitely should not go to the gym. The issue might also be some MMA-related injury, that takes time to heal.
