Who are the best Russian UFC fighters?
In this post, we go through 10 of the best Russian UFC fighters of all time.
The definition of a Russian UFC fighter in this post is a UFC fighter that has Russian nationality and not looking at their ethnic background.
There are a lot of great UFC fighters coming from Russia and this list might as well be 20, but to make it simple, here are 10 of the best.
This list could also be called the best Russian MMA fighters since the people who can do well in the UFC will definitely do well in MMA as well.
I should also mention that every video I have linked here is not made by me and they can be found on YouTube.
Let’s get started with the first one, who is one of the best UFC fighters of all time.
1. The Best Russian UFC Fighter: Khabib Nurmagomedov
The number one spot goes to Khabib Nurmagomedov. There is really no other option for having the title of the greatest UFC fighter ever and with that, also the best Russian UFC fighter.
Khabib retired with an undefeated record of 29-0 and held the UFC lightweight championship from 2018 to 2020.
He was born in 1988 and has a nickname “The Eagle”. He fought most of his career in the lightweight division but also from 2009 to 2011 in the welterweight division. Here are all the UFC weight classes.
Nurmagomedov was active in the UFC from 2008 until 2020, winning every single UFC fight he ever had. One of the most known fights is Nurmagomedov vs McGregor, and it is one of the most interesting UFC fights I have ever seen.
Here is a video that has every finish of Nurmagomedov during his UFC career.
2. Petr Yan
Next, we have Petr Yan, who has currently an MMA record of 16 wins and 4 losses.
Even though it is not a perfect lossless record, 16-4 is still a great accomplishment and enough to get into this list.
He fights in the UFC bantamweight division, and his nickname is “No Mercy”.
Here is a video of his best moments.
3. Alexander Volkov
The next name on the list is Alexander Volkov. Volkov has a record of 45 wins and 10 losses and has been active since 2009.
Volkov is a heavyweight fighter, unlike previous names on this list who fight in much lighter divisions.
Here is a video about Volkovs best moments.
4. Zabit Magomedsharipov
That is next to a perfect record. Magomedsharipov was active from 2012 to 2020.
Here is a video that has some of his best moments:
5. Islam Makhachev
Islam Makhachev started his MMA career in 2010 and is still active. His main fighting style is based on Sambo and he fights in the lightweight division.
Currently, he has a record of 24 wins and only one loss during his MMA career.
Here is a video about some of his best moments:
6. Rustam Khabilov
The next name on the list is Rustam Khabilov. Khabilov was born in 1968 and started his professional MMA career in 2007 and is still active.
He has been fighting in the lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight divisions.
His fighting style is also based on Combat Sambo.
Khabilov has 24 wins and 4 losses to his name, which is an excellent win rate.

Next up: Magomed Ankalaev. Ankalaev was born in 1992 and has been active since 2014. He fights in the light heavyweight division and has a record of 18 wins and only one loss.

Additional information about Russian UFC fighters
There are a lot of great UFC and MMA fighters coming from Russia.
A lot of them come from a specific area, from the Republic of Dagestan. I don’t know why the people coming from that part of Russia are so great, but whatever they are doing seems to be working.
Another big thing that separates Russian UFC fighters from the rest of the world, is Sambo as their primary martial art.
In conclusion, some of these names are less known even to me, since there are so many fights going on all the time.
However, I think most of us can agree that Khabib Nurmagomedov deserved the number one spot on this list, and also if there was a list of Best UFC fighters ever to exist, probably that as well.
With such a clean record and a wonderful personality, Khabib is one of my favorite fighters.
I hope this was helpful, keep in mind that this is not the official top 10 list based on scientific data, it is just made by me, a random guy on the internet.
Anyhow, have a wonderful day!
